Bio, 2009: Bob Hurd
I married Pam Burkett (class of 66) am am proud that she still loves me. We have two girls.Stacie lives in Enid, OK. Her husband is the baseball coach for Northern Oklahoma College (Enid campus). He also teaches computer classes. Stacie administers the testing of students entering NOC. Unfortunately, she has no children, but lots of dogs and cats. Heather lives in Orlando, FL. She teaches kindergarten and has two children: a boy and a girl. Finally, another male in the family.
After I graduated from OSU, we moved to Tulsa. I went to work for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co, Certified Public Accountants (now KPMG). There, I got my CPA. !n 1975, I was assigned to help supervise the audit of Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in Anchorage. They had just started to built the oil pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez. That was quite an experience and a challenge.
I left the public accounting world to work for American Airlines. I was their manager – computer audits then their managing director – general accounting. While at American, I was involved in many interesting deals. The most interesting and rewarding was a deal American made with Canadian Airlines to provide various management services that included accounting services. This was great challenge converting their systems, hiring and training the staff, and then providing the services. It was like starting a company from scratch. Hard, but fun and satisfying professionally.
Following 9-11, I took early retirement. I reorganized my garage three times and went looking for work. I found a controller’s position with American Auto Parks. I retired again in May 2008 and went back to work in October 2008. I will be trying retirement a third time this May. I hope the saying “third time is a charm” is applicable.
In 2000, I was on the Antique Road Show with a painting I inherited from my grandmother. Many people believe this to be my claim to fame. Actually, it is my family that is my true claim to fame. They are wonderful.
We still live in Tulsa, but spend the summers in Florida with the grandkids when they are out of school.
