Bio, 2014: Linda Smith Lombardo
When I read Jo Ella’s bio I was inspired to share my thoughts. I, too, am proud to be part of the Class of ’64. And I’m extremely proud to be an Okie. I’ve lived in the suburbs of Chicago for over 40 years but I will always treasure my childhood growing up in Stillwater. I don’t know how many of you know how connected I am with our hometown. My grandmother’s family was in the land run opening up the state and settled there. Her maiden name was Duck (you all know Duck Street). Her uncle donated part of his land so that Okla. A&M College could be located in Stillwater. I understand our forefather’s had the choice of establishing a prison or a college. They made a good choice! My great Aunt Jessie was the first woman to graduate from OAMC (in the second graduating class). Some of us may remember Thatcher Hall which is named in her honor. Also, the library now has a Jessie Thatcher Bost room.I still live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I came to this area to work for Continental Airlines in 1968 after graduating from OSU with a B.S. in Education. I worked for the airlines for 15 years in a reservations office and I was able to travel the world. After that I had various jobs, my favorite was working for American Standard Plumbing Products as a Showroom manager in the Merchandise Mart. I married Mario in 1980 but lost him to pulmonary fibrosis in 2011 just two months shy of our 30th wedding anniversary. My life has certainly changed since then. I retired in 2012. I tell everyone that I was born to be retired. I converted to Catholicism and participate in various aspects of church life. I’ve become an avid Tai Chi devotee and I’ve developed a wide range of new friends and stay in touch with my old ones. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the love of my life, Lenny, who is my little dachshund. We love our walks and we love our naps on the couch. Life is good and that’s my story. I look forward to seeing everyone this summer
