Bio, 2014: Marilyn McMillen Dougall

Wow, there are some exciting bios out there. Mine is calmer.

After graduating from OSU I moved to Atlanta with a friend. I taught English there a year before returning to OSU for an MA in English. I met my husband there. After graduation we were in South Carolina running a small weekly newspaper. When it was time to get serious, we moved to Oklahoma City for 7 years where my husband, Mike, became interested in computers and went into that field.

In 1984 we moved with our 2 children (6 and 5) to New Orleans where we lived for 22 years. I went to Tulane and received an MSW and have been in private practice since.

After Katrina we moved to Colorado where, at 60, i began a new private practice and have enjoyed a busy business and involvement in the community. Our daughter still lives in New Orleans with her husband and three children. She enjoys the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom. Our son lives in Atlanta and after receiving an MA in Neuroscience, is now following his dad’s footsteps and works in computers.

I feel very grateful to be able to do what I love to do, visit New Orleans often and all that holds for us, and be living in a beautiful place in the mountains. Who knew life could be so grand.

I will miss being in Stillwater this weekend. Actually, I’m missing it more with each email.

Still hoping to make it there sometime!
