Bio, 2014: Steve Reed
Life and Times of Steve Reed
I was initially hesitant on writing my Bio, but thought, why not. Life is good. After HS graduation, I went to OSU - had a great time, partied too much, but studied just enough to graduate in 1968. I met my wife, Rae, of 47 years (and counting) at OSU and we married Aug 31, 1968. I was fortunate enough to go to work for a company (Burroughs Corp.) that let me start Aug 2, and gave us a weeks vacation to start off with for our honeymoon. Ok, it was a big deal then since we didnt have any money.
I have been in high-tech sales my whole career, starting with Burroughs, Data General, Sun Microsystems, HP, and finally a small high performance computing company out of Calgary. The best company, without doubt, was Sun Microsystems. We were fortunate to work for them in the 90's high tech growth period and had company trips to Rome, Paris (where they rented the Louvre for the night and Versailles for another night for a gala ball in full 18th century costume), and Hawaii several times plus numerous other trips. I am supposedly retired, but after I announced retirement, I had some people I knew along the way who have asked me to help them move into Oil and Gas, a specialty area I have been working in for a long time. So, I guess I am now semi retired after forming my consulting company in the past couple of years. All good.
Our moving adventures after college were moving to OKC, Enid, Edmond, Dallas, Tulsa and now The Woodlands, TX (North of Houston) where we have lived since 1990.
Even though we seldom lived close to each other, our best friends throughout the years are Ken and Sharon (Lecrone) Peters. In one way or another, we raised our kids together and grandkids. We actually survived a trip to the Rockies in 1 RV with 4 adults and our 4 kids a long time ago- and yet we are still friends. At least I think so - maybe they will return our calls someday ;)
Hobbies include golf, woodworking and genealogy. The best part of life now is our 2 kids, Carter and Merritt, and 3 grandkids who, until recently, lived very close to us in The Woodlands, Texas. Sadly for us, our daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandkids just moved to Edmond in January. So it looks like we will be up there more often. My daughter recently took our grandson (a junior at Edmond) to OSU to visit and he has said he is now committed to go there. Not sure whether it was the campus, Eskimo Joes, or the coeds, but he is committed.
We were not sure whether we could attend this year, but now it looks like we will be there. Look forward to seeing everybody. Stever
